Registration for the event is officially full as of this morning. We’re working on finding ways to expand capacity or make more tickets available, so stay tuned if you missed your opportunity to get a ticket. Venue & Date Set!

Well, we have a date and a venue to announce.
WordCamp RVA will be held on Saturday, May 9th, at the offices of Hirschler Fleischer from 9:30am until 5:00pm. I went to their offices today to meet with Chris Gatewood, one of our speakers, and he gave me a tour of the space and we set all details in place. The space is gorgeous and should be plenty big to fit our group. This is a huge milestone in the planning of this event. Hirschler Fleischer is able to not only provide us with space but also tables, seating, projectors, screens, and much more. This is a very exciting day.
In the upcoming weeks, the speaker list will be filled out along with the days schedule. Once more of that is in place, event registration will be opened, so stay tuned!

WordCamp RVA Launched

Welcome to WordCamp RVA. Some of you may be asking what a WordCamp is. WordCamp.org probably explains this best:
WordCamp is a conference type of event that focuses squarely on everything WordPress. Everyone from casual end users all the way up to core developers show up to these events. These events are usually highlighted by speeches or keynotes by various people.
Given recent conversations I’ve been having with local bloggers, webmasters, and advertisers I decided that it was time for Richmond to have its very own WordCamp. It is my hope that this will grow into an annual, if not semiannual event, allowing bloggers and WordPress fans from all over the region to meet up and discuss things like theme/plugin development, monetization, search engine optimization, legal concerns, or even where the best burgers in town are.
The plan is for the initial WordCamp to be somewhat introductory to get everyone moving towards an even playing field in knowledge. Then through this website and further WordCamp’s, start to ratchet it up so that we’re covering the full spectrum from writing posts to developing robust themes and plugins. If you’re already familiar with WordPress however, don’t feel like you’ll be bored at this first event. We’re hoping to cover a wide range of topics so there’s sure to be something of interest to you on the agenda.
If you are interested in possibly sponsoring part of the event, I strongly encourage you to check out our Sponsors page. The list is small at the moment, but if you don’t see something you’d like to sponsor currently then keep checking back. As I determine further needs for the WordCamp, the list will be expanded. Sponsors will be given plenty of opportunities to place signage at the event and will be given time to speak in front of the audience if you desire it.
While things are getting settled for sponsorships and venue, etc, please help out by taking a moment to complete this quick survey. It will help better determine what content will be covered and whether or not we need to split the group into two paths (technical vs non-technical for instance).
